Welcome to the first Hertfordshire Music Service SEND Schools Update of this academic year!

We look forward to hopefully working with you this year, be that as part of an Arts Award programme, at a Music Teacher Network meeting, or at another local music event in the County.

If you have any questions, ideas or concerns, please get in touch. Email is the easiest way to do this, as I am not full time in this role but can often pick up emails outside my usual hours.

Looking forward to working with you soon!

Hertfordshire Music Service Update

Funky Pie Website

Welcome to our newly updated Funky Pie Company page. The Funky Pie Company started as the home of our Arts Award programme, but has grown to encompass the full breadth of Herts Music Service’s SEND provision. Please do take a look around to find out what we are offering.

Inclusive Music Group

We are in the early stages of establishing an inclusive music ensemble at Mid Herts Music Centre in Hatfield on a Saturday afternoon. We are looking for musicians of all interests and abilities to be part of a pilot project, bringing traditional musical instruments and technology together to explore new music. Please email Flis (felicity.kirk@hertsmusicservice.org.uk) if you have a young person in your school who you think would be interested.

*FREE!* Music Assembly

A number of successful assemblies were delivered at the end of last term. If you are yet to have your assembly, please email Flis (felicity.kirk@hertsmusicservice.org.uk) to get this booked in.

Mobile Sensory Room

Hertfordshire Music Service has a multi-sensory resource (lighting, sound, projections, etc.) that is currently housed at Mid Herts Centre in Hatfield. We are exploring various uses for it, including a semi-permanent set up at the centre and/or loaning it out to schools. It is set up on a wheeled flight case so it can be moved around on the flat, although it is large and heavy so would require a van with a tail lift for use outside Mid Herts. If you have an idea of how you could use the trolley or would like to know more, please do get in touch!

SEND Music Teachers Network

After the success of last year’s SEND Music Teachers Network, we are ready to go for 2019/2020. We have a new, private Facebook Group that you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/425170664642550/ Please do consider joining to stay up to date with the latest network news and events. There is currently a poll in the group to set the date of our meeting after half term, where we will look at the use of technology and discuss an exciting SEN Crowd Funding project.

Hertfordshire Year of Culture logo

Culture is taking centre stage during 2020, as part of a year-long campaign to showcase Hertfordshire’s creative opportunities. Hertfordshire Year of Culture 2020 (HYOC2020) will put the spotlight on arts, culture and heritage across the county and we want you involved!

Activities, special events and experiences will be taking place during 12 themed months that look to celebrate different types of art, share cultural experiences and explore our creative heritage. Months include promoting local museums and theatres, exploring the county’s culture in our towns and parks, encouraging you to try something new or get involved with volunteering.

So, no matter what art and culture means to you – there will be something for everyone. To find out more about HYOC2020 visit our website at http://www.HYOC2020.org.uk; where you can sign up to our mailing list. You can also follow us on twitter.com/HYOC2020 and facebook.com/HertsYOC2020 to keep up to date with the campaign as it develops. For further information, please contact the HYOC2020 Project Co-ordinator, Liz Gore at hyoc2020@hertsmere.gov.uk

Hertfordshire Music Education Hub Survey

At the end of last term, you should have received a short online survey of the music offered in their school, for the Herts Music Education Hub to share with Arts Council England. The survey allows the Music Service and the Hub to prove the need for music education funds in Hertfordshire, including financial support for children with SEND. If you need this to be resent, please email nick.denham@hertfordshire.gov.uk.

Music Therapy

Did you know that Hertfordshire Music Service has a team of Music Therapists? Please head to http://www.hertsmusicservice.org.uk/music-therapy/  to find out more.
