What an African adventure.

We didn’t realise there was so much to do in Africa.

We found out about African fabrics and have made some of our own.

We learnt about African masks… we are making some of these too.

We are also busy playing instruments, dancing, singing and sharing our African stories with our own African characters.

We also got really excited about what our sounds look like!

I wonder what happens next?

The Funky Pie crew 2016-2017 travelled to Africa and back, twice!

Wow! Another year begins at The Funky Pie Company and we are so excited to see how the work evolves.

We have already journeyed to Africa and back twice, exploring animals we see, coloursĀ andĀ patterns we notice, sounds, movement,Ā music and we even danced around a fire.

Along the way, we have met lots of other people on our journey and already we have made friends.

What will happen next I wonder? We never know and that’s what makes this project so magical.

Stay tuned for more adventures of the 2016-2017 Funky Pie Crew.

Celebrating all our young people

DSC_9781Another amazing year at Funky Pie has come to the end. What a year it has been yet again.

Outstanding achievements for all our young people, who haveĀ been successful with the following Arts Awards

OneĀ Gold Award

SixĀ Silver Awards

Forty ThreeĀ Bronze Awards

In addition to these amazing achievements, eight young people have gained Funky Pie Company Enrichment Certificates and One young man successfully achieved The Funky Pie Company Bridge Certificate which will enable him to work on his Gold Award next year.

We are so proud of each and every young person… you are all stars!

Here is a little snapshot of the fabulously surreal Gold and Silver Award performance ‘Cinderella and the Smelly Sock’, performed at the equally fabulous Trestle Arts Base in St Albans as part of our annual Celebration event.

As ever, we are all super excited to see what comes fromĀ the next Funky Pie experience… roll on 2016 – 2017!

Sharing our skills

IMG_0475As part of The Funky Pie Company programme, we have three sharing events in every academic year, the first one being the Share and Show day. Within these events, the Funky Pie professional artists share their practice, through demonstration and then further through interactive workshops.

IMG_0438The young people get the opportunity to share their work to a wider audience and offers a chance to experiment with various creative processes and work as a collective.

IMG_0424Our next sharing and interactive event will be on Thursday March 17th.

This event we call Creative Arts Day. We welcome participation in this event from all SEND Schools in Hertfordshire. Contact Judy Manning for further information and booking requirements.

Celebrating success

The culmination of the course every year is a celebration and sharing event at a professional theatre.
This year again, we again took over the fabulousĀ Trestle theatre in St Albans. This is a fantastic venue to share some quite delightful outcomes.

As well as sharing the most amazing work that all our young people have produced throughout the course, we were treated to the debut performance of the fabulous band, Atmosphere, a solo piece by the singer song writer and violinist Sian,Ā plusĀ dance and percussive performances, all breathtakingly good.

This year we were left somewhat spellbound by the amazing talents of one young man, Chris, who as well as successfully completing his Arts Award at Silver level, he ran the lighting desk for the entire event, with about 10 minutes tuition… an absolute natural!
These young people have incredible creativity and courage in sharing to such a large audience.
Simply fantastic!

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this years project, another amazing year of creativity with an abundance of achievements.

Well done everyone!
